Last year my favourite tattoo artist was doing a giveaway. I’d not long got out of prison and life felt pretty bleak. My partner at the time had cheated on me while I was serving, one of my dogs passed, and my landlord wanted to evict me. It was a tough time. I entered this giveaway and shortly after received a message saying I’d won - he’d personally selected me. I couldn’t believe my luck and honestly it couldn’t have come at a better time. The reason I admire this artist is not solely for his work and craft but his mindset too. He practises gratitude and puts a lot of love out into the world and often remarks “life springs eternal.” At the time I’d felt like life was never going to improve and that incarceration had ruined me. A year later and I’ve finally got the tattoo (he’s very busy). Incarceration hasn’t ruined me. I will spring and blossom and flourish. There is still kindness and love in the world.
