The bill we protested affects everyone. my friend's trial finished on Friday and the jury left to deliberate. They'll continue today and will likely return with a verdict. Although the protest we attended did get out of hand, I can categorically say that this person is not guilty of the charges against him. it breaks my heart seeing aspiring activists put on the stand and made to justify their politics to a jury who genuinely don't understand how our government is stripping our democracy. maybe I am pessimistic and perhaps condescending by suggesting the jury might not understand, I'm just not hopeful and I don't trust the justice system. governments across the world seem pretty bleak right now. when communities are threatened and feel like they're dismantling it is vital to regroup and nurture each other. I like talking about my politics here because I feel safe and it inspires interesting conversations. Even if we oppose views, I think it's imperative to talk about these things otherwise we will all isolate ourselves. Thanks for reading, have a good week! X
